Database Maintenance

The Equator firebird database over time will grow, have new records added. Indexes will gradually grow and get long and unbalanced without some maintenance.

It is recommended to performing a full offline backup and restore to rebuild balanced indexes peridically. An optimal frequency depends on number of records in tables, and rate of data growth.

To assist, Equator has built in mechanisms to perform offline backup and restores on a default 30 day cycle.

When databases are stored on machines separate to the one hosting the Equator, then a helper service is needed to aid with the process because the filesystem cannot be directly accessed.
